Vidal Sasson A Legend at Peace
January 17, 1928 to May 9, 2012
His passing could not go by without a word from our salon, built on his philosophies and training. He has been described as “a rock star, an artist, a craftsman who changed the world with a pair of scissors.” His self-procalimed ‘wash and wear’ hairstyles came at a time when all-day salon visits, ratting and hairspray were commonplace. Vidal himself proclaimed,
“My idea was to cut shape into the hair, to use it like fabric and take away everything that was superfluous.” -Vidal SassoonComing at a time of great strides in the women’s movement. Ladies were leaving the home and joining the workforce. If you’ve never heard his rags-to-riches story, (he lived in an orphanage), you must watch Vidal Sassoon, The Movie. Truly a self-made man who changed the world.
GS HAIR owner, Greg Saumure attended The Vidal Sassoon Academy in Santa Monica. Every ideal we follow, the skills we pass on to our staff, everything we aspire to be, runs thick with Vidal Sassoon training. Many of our styling team have Vidal Sassoon Educations. Fellow Salon owners and our friends are Vidal Sassoon Alumni. Even our ‘cut-test’ is based upon the 5 basic cuts from The Vidal Sassoon Academy. We recently added his son, Elan Sassoon’s incredible , Sojourn, to our product lines. It is with great sadness that we learned of his passing. He made all of us better stylists, better business-people and better artists. We opened with his blessing. May every day honor his legacy.
