Reopening Salons Outdoors

Outdoor Salon Services

Monday, July 13th, 2020, we temporarily closed as ordered by the State Department of Public Health.  The following Monday, July 20th, 2020, the Governor announced salons could open by working outside.  But we are regulated by the Board of Barbering and Cosmetology and their website said outdoor services were expressly forbidden. At least they were on July 19th, 2020.  July 19th, 2020 – Press Release State Board

Then the order was ‘clarified’ by The Board of Barbering and Cosmetology the following day, Monday, July 20th, 2020, by saying we could operate outdoors, but with limitations.  Confused?  We were too.  July 20, 2020 Press Release – State Board

The 5-page Memorandum issued the following day, July 20, 2020 was published by Kimberly Kirchmeyer, Director of the Department of Consumer Affairs and available via the State Board of Barbering and Cosmetology.  The Board of Barbering and Cosmetology included a 2-page Establishment Checklist for Safely Running Outdoor Services and a 1-page reminder of Disciplinary Action should those rules not be followed.

The Department of Consumer Affairs Memorandum included specific instructions on how outdoor services may be performed by salon professionals, should they opt to use them.  We are clearly motivated to keep our business open and have studied the Memorandum very carefully.

After careful consideration, we have decided to stay closed.  These rules are outside our control and outlined by The Department of Consumer Affairs.

  1. Chemical services cannot be performed outdoors.  This includes hair color, bleaching and straightening.
  2. Shampooing cannot be performed outdoors.
  3. Services that require the customer to enter the establishment cannot be performed outdoors.  We considered our upstairs deck, but it can only be accessed from inside the salon.

All things considered, we have opted to pass on outdoor hair services.  We value every one of our clients.  We take your health and safety seriously, and we look forward to a speedy re-opening.  Call anytime.

With love and respect,

The Saumure Family
